Apparantly they are different from on another, however, apart from body shape, what are the other distinctive attributes to differentiate between them?

Size/length(L174), eyes (L46), length of snout/size of head.....I was thinking of collating a id guide for Hypans, gave up after different reference sites gave different pics without explanations...plus we do not get to see different variety as often as the other sp. so personal experience is limited....
I am able to id:
1. L46 (every grandmother and her maid can do that)
2. L98 (after paying expensive tuition at QH)
3. L173 (have 2)
4. L174 (commonly available).
Still confused:
1. L66 vs L333 vs L287 vs L236 vs L345 vs L400 (especially juveniles)
2. L382 (not even a Hypan)
I am now only interested in white background with black markings, there are so many more out there which are more black with a little white markings...
Still waiting for a L98 and also L250 (have not seen a live specimen):(

when i started keeping plecos, i came upon some article thats say, some hypan are generous black color base with white stripes where some are white base color with black strips.
example of white base with black strips is L46 (easiest to visualise), the other black base with white stripe L316 or L333?

Shed some lights,....
"Hypancistrus are small- to medium-sized fishes that can be recognized from the very similar Peckoltia and Hemiancistrus by having larger dentary teeth than premaxillary teeth"

Another interesting point from the site is the amount of plating on the belly for the Hypancistrus sp. compared to Peckoltia sp.
