Here's my first Pseudacanthicus tank setup picture.
I started with small plecos like Hypancistrus so this is a "big" leap in fish size for me.
The tank setup is in its first iteration and I do expect change to the setup in the very near future as I go along.
Here's a Full Tank Shot

Unfortunately I didn't have a photo ID session with the new inmates...
So here are random pictures I could get of the inhabitants.
I'm starting to appreciate the spikes on the flanks of these fish.
Thanks to a photo session with HJB's fish! kekeke

Another trait I like is shown in this picture where the tail's extended filaments cross one another when the caudal tail is closed.

Pictures of two of them side by side.

Hopefully I can get more pictures of the others soon...

I don't know if they are a pair, as in a male and a female.
My Pseudacanticus ID skills are non-existent!
But observation seems to lead that way as they are not antagonistic to one another.

Irwin, how big is the tank ? Btw, the female stopped growing and remains small. Less colorful. Pattern is boring. These are tell tale signs for big species.

Barmby,
The matching L25's have been housed together before I got them.
This was a reason why I didnt want to be too confident that the smaller fish is female.
Now that both Gecko and yourself suggest its females makes me feel a little better!
They are about 5" and 5.5" minus the tail filament.
The pectoral odontode growth is also lesser for the smaller fish (thanks Gecko!)
Time to sit back and wait for quite a while...
Mr.XPlecos,
The filtration in this tank is "minimal".
There's a Hamburg Matten Filter for bio-filtration and a Powerhead (with cannister) for mechanical.
Lastly, one airstone.

Ir, just set up a pair of 10", lets race :)
My male was just introduced to the female, gees a bit too violent for me :o
Your pair grew up together so chances of them pairing up (just like the japanese experience) is high...
So MX, did ur 160 shows signs of 'togetherness' before the deed?

MX,
Wei, I'm not your ger ger.
Don't make me high with these comments! WAHAHAHA
But seriously, I would feel better if I had about 4 to 6 pieces of the black base fish.
Don't really want to cross the sao felix type with this one.
Hopefully there are fish of this sort avialable locally.
Gecko,
Don't need to race lah.
You cross the line first!
Ready fish and favourable weather!
It would be a good year of so for something to happen.
In the meantime thankfully have MX "han solo" to observe growth.
Did you mention that the picture genes posted is how the black base L25 look when young?
Or was it another variant like the sao felix?

NO leh...in fact the alpha male was trying his luck to force them into the cave. 1st was the ex-girlfriend, but it didnt work out after the trapping, so i think he change his mind to this current one.
Now, i have intro another "looks ready" female inside and she seems not interested in him.

Yo celticfish, the children will not grow very big next time if their parents are small in size when they mate. Therefore, big mother = big children. The genes are like that. Thats how they play the giant betta game if I am not wrong. Likewise for discus, i can confirm that...

Nice setup Irwin and of cos quality pieces of L25s. Colin does has his point. Female koi use for breeding jumbo bloodline are always 90cm above.

Agree on the genetically small parents theory.
From what I know these guys are still young.
MX maybe you can elaborate their history?
I'm not too sure myself when they got to SG and at what size.
I not really hoping to breed this lot yet.
They still need some growing out for me to even try.
Hence my WTB thread for fish 8" and below.
At this point in time its just acquisition then talk later! :D

They should be from the 2007 batch where it was selling at $98 per piece. Size wise should between 2-3inches that time. Given the size now, at app. 1 inch a year, to attain another 3 more inches, would takes another three years.

Those black and white blangah plecs are a nuisance to the set-up lah ! transfer them to plecoHut for area cleaning :D
barmby

Another perspective - it will be nice if they can spawn accidentally. But I think very tough. Well, anything can happen if you are talking about celticfish fishkeeping skills :)
Pleco need many years to reach sexual maturity. No matter how conducive the setting is. But once they breed, they keep breeding.. :)

SIFU,
You right, those black and white blangah aren't doing a good job.
So they've been sold to a proud new owner.
Shooo... also a PCS member! :D
MX,
You're the walking history book for pseuda touch-downs and price!
Barmby,
Hope the accident happens!
But I'm not holding my breath with the point you mention.
Right now its just acquisition for stock.
I can only tell if breeding is possible when the acquisition mode is over.
In the meantime, grabbing any opportunity to get fish!
Here's an update of the latest member.
L025 number four (I also just realized I skipped the picture of number three... :o )
This fish has a brown base with black spots.
Only a three pointer but looks great to me!
Well any fish is good health looks great to me, "nice" colouration is just "extra-cream"!
Anyone has any idea of which variant this fella is?
I'll get picture for fish three to compare soon.
Been a bit busy with drake's L600 wrigglers.

Hi
Just joined this forum after recently venturing into the world of pseudacanthicus :)Found this thread to be useful to post my question on pseuda tank setup.
Is it advisable to put shoaling tankmates? Heard it makes the plecs less jumpy given the company and also help to keep white worms problem in check. I feed a combination of market prawns and pellets thus some unconsumed market prawns stuck somewhere are potential food for these worms. If tankmates are desired, any species to recommend? Planetcatfish recommended barbs but i wonder why since they dont come from same area and tetras seem to be a more suitable candidate?
Also given tankmates, if the pseudas were to breed (If only they breeed so readily... haha :p), wont the fries be feeders to these tankmates?
Thanks for any advice!!!
