Ed, I think Sotong is adding some other parameters which he feels is also impt.

Bro actually how do people measure dissolved air. Do you all use the pH, kH method similar to calculation of CO2?

Bro 1ppm is dangerous. That is what I heard.

Any suggestions to keep nitrate to <20ppm?
Like WC freq, adding certain chemicals, etc.

i use denitrator :D
initially very stable at around 20ppm but kar chng itchy, add 3 more plecos {a 9" L24, a small 600 & a small 14}, now shoot back to high high, so back to water changes:(

mixture of biohome and CR.
i think bioballs are inside the denitrator.

Similar to keeping aros right, correct me if I am wrong...

PH: 6.5~7.0
Armonia: 0
nitrite: 0
nitrate: <40ppm
Temp:26~28 degrees

That is the water parameter I maintain for my aros and plecos...:)

To reduce nitrate level, can add some plantings to the tank. Alternative a good denitrator (simple, but u must know what u are doing)...

AF has already in discussion of using denitrator long time ago, maybe u guy can refer to bro atom thread in af to get a more detail idea of denitrator and how the use of it...

And also my Eheim DIY Denitrator (work extremely well :D)

Bro may i know why is pandan plant used to eliminate nitrate instead of water hyacinth? I thought water hyacinth would be a better choice?

No la, i didnt DIY it. I purchased it from a reputable marine lfs in malaysia. RM850 for the price. However, the price paid is definitely worth for it... Even thinking of getting another pc if i were crazy enough...:D

water hyacinth cant stay alive in normal tank light, it will die slowly in ur tank without direct sunlight, just matter of time. Another problem of water hyacith is that the roots will drop out very fast, and thus causing clogging issue...

Pandan plant doesnt has such issues, they can grow with just aquarium white light, and roots are pretty tough that will not easily broken...

pardon me ... its looks like some PVC pipes jointed together with some valves leh ...

SGD$400 for it ? Sheesh .. would prefer a L46 over it ...

Yes, it is just some pipes joining together with a eheim canister, just same of the most denitrators in the market. But what we more concern about, is how effective is that particular denitrator work? My denitrator get matured in just 1 weeks time, which twice faster that those branded denitrators (cost SG500+) in the market...

Besides, the PVC design is not as that simple as it look, there are a lot of small little things to take note of. That's why I'm saying better know what u r doing if u are planning to get a denitrator...:)

Hehe, actually ppl who havent enter into the denitrator stage, will definitely think they are very expensive. But once they use it and get the result they expected, they will think it worth it...

Plecos are not cheap, I will not save on my tank setup and risk my fishes for that... Besides, I am also a ppl who lazy to wc frequently...:p

I'm an old sch hobbyist developed from era of "fish tank and air stone" only ...

trying to modernize myself with technology leh .. like UV .. denitrator leh ...

later my fragile heart break how? rofl ..

teach more leh ... me learn and upgrade ... :D
