I moved 1 pair of BN from the community tank into a 2ft tank specially meant for them. Two days into the new tank, i saw this pair in the same cave and hrs later saw eggs scattered all over the tank. However, days later, i realised the eggs didn't hatch. So, my question is, any chance they will spawn again? as its been more than 1 wk, and still didn't see action from them again. Its my 1st attempt at breeding BN, n oso the pair's 1st attempt at spawning.

You also need to wait for the female to have eggs again mah ... :D Give them a month i think they will do it again ! Good luck !

Thx, so I need to wait around 1mth, i thought they will spawn again pretty fast if the 1st spawn is not successful. I thought the male is not interested afterall since he scattered the eggs all over the tank the 1st time. Hahaaaa...so i just need to wait.

hi snowball, just leave them alone . do not add or remove any tank mates. do keep up the water change. 4-5 weeks they'll spawn again. I am pretty confident :) haha! But the pair need to be "zai" and the male need to know how to fertilize the eggs else it will be fruitless. maturity level is important.

Thanks barmby for ur affirmation, i shall wait then & i'm not too sure if this pair is really mature enough, haha, lets just wait & see;) And oh yes, you guessed it right, i nearly wanted to change their partner or even add new female into the tank when i didn;t see action again:rolleyes: Wow...thanks for all ur timely respond, o/wise i would hv taken the wrong action :D

They finally spawned again after more than 1mth, and this time round, the eggs are not scattered all over the tank, its all cluttered inside the cave. Chances are pretty high, i think. When do they usually hatch? and should i buy some baby food for the fries if they hatch successfully? or is algae wafer good enough?

My exp. with zebs.
They will hatched approx. 4-5 days upto tempature.
You can feed them Hikari Carnivore crushed after the egg sac almost gone.

After 4-5 days you will see the wrigglers. If you are experience enough you can take them out to a breeding box with air bubble introduced else let the father take care of them for the time being. About 6-7 days later, the egg sac (food for the fry) will be used up. Then it is best to introduce Daphnia or soft food. You need to slowly introduce solid pellet food if not they will be easily choked.

Thanks guys for the infor. I have tetra bits, i think its not soft enough to be given to these fries. I also have flake, how about that, soft enough if i soak it in water? I also saw Hikari 1st bite in lfs, powdered form, fine and soft enough to feed? the daphnia u mentioned, is it the frozen daphnia or the freeze-dried type? Thanks in advance for all your help. 1st time breeding pleco, must get all the help and infor i can get to prevent accidentally killing all the fries.

I use frozen type. Defrost it for half an hour. Use a twitter and put a small portion into the breeder box. you can watch them if you want. Check 10 min later and see you need to feed some more or not.

Mission failed haha. Checked the cave this morning, half the egg are missing, the remaining half some turned white, some transluscent. What a disappointment! Guess have to wait another 1mth more  Would the eggs be eaten by the male, i wonder.

Did something real stupid this morning. I tried knocking out the contents in the cave, but it just won't come out, shine a touch light in, then.....saw a 'tail', just 1 tail. Quickly, i put the cave back into the tank, papa pleco went back in in a few minutes' time. He must have got a rude shock when i took the cave and pour him out into the breeder box, he was struggling b4 i release him back into tank. Wonder if he will harm the wriggler after getting the shock or have i done any harm to the wrigglers at all. Looks like i may have just 1 or 2 fry afterall, cross my finger!
