Did I get the timing wrong? The brood seem lesser than the last time. The last spawn I got 45-50 (count the fries in Spawn 4 thread)
This time I only has bout 30-35. Either the male kick out quite abit of egg sac or the fries went free swimming earlier than I thought. I won't know because the altum could have eaten them before I can count. But thats the way. I have to let the tank run and get them to eat the leftovers
Thank you PCS again :)

Its quite normal for the brood size to get smaller with each subsequent brood.
After multiple brooding they pair will decide to take a break.
Its also unlikely you "lost" much, if any, wrigglers.
The father is quite able to herd them in the cave.
But please please please take the "angel fish" out lah!
Cherry shrimps make better scavangers and can get to places the "angel fish" cannot too!

Hi barmby, i have been following your post on spawning, so envious. I also tried what u did with some eggs that 1 of my pair that spawned 1st time in the community tank. I siphoned all the eggs from the comm tank, kept them in the breeder box and managed to get 5 wrigglers out of 39 eggs, did 20% daily water change with aged water, but on day 5, all the wrigglers are motionless, dead. What could have gone wrong?

It very much depend on the male from what I see . The females are always wanted it ... :D
The max for me is to have the male on ten batches of eggs before he call it quit in four months . Now a good time to max out as the weather is colder with all the rains .
