In the past when one speaks of a giant royal, LDA65 comes to mind right away....in recent months however, there seems to be new challengers. Wonder if SA fishermen are investing in diving equipments, many giants royals have been imported into Asia at never seen before sizes!
L190 16"+TL. (Mine, Recently sold to focus on LDA 65). Until this year, the biggest I saw was 11"....now 14, 15 inchers are common.

L418 23"++ TL (Mine, Recently sold to focus on LDA 65). Again, until this year, the biggest and then it was a 1 in 100's I have seen was a 17". Now 20"+++ are common.

L330 20"+ TL (recently saw in Taipei lfs WaterWorld). In the past a 12"+ was considered a giant.

Same fish:

These giants should be captured from deep water. Really wonder what their true potential size is.

SA fishermen are almost jobless, expecially those in Brazil. No job for them when the ban is being imposed strictly. Their life is dependable on the fishes and the river. Either they remain jobless or turn to other alternatives, which they are unskilled off. The only way for survival is to diverse into other jobs such as gold mining or other illegal activities that causes social problems to their country.
Fishes from Columbia, Peru and Venezuela have since become an alternative for them to keep themselve in a job. Thus, with " no choice", they may have exported out giant specimens as these will fetch a higher price compared to many few smaller ones. The effort for catching a giant is much better than a few smaller ones.
Their diving equipment is just a speed boat, air compressor, hose, goggle, net and a stick. Simple and basic than any scuba diving gear.

I dont think L27 or at least not Xingu, Tapajos, Araguaia, Tocantins. IMO its L330. Body shape and yellow caudal margin point in the direction of L190 but L330 can have these characteristics. The pattern and pattern extension into the caudal look like L330.

You think L190 dont have straight belly lines? What about its teeth, what do they look like?
Not refering to L190 lah ! L330 or L27a lah ! :)
