I've got an extra 4 ft x 1.5 x 1.5 tank laying around, and I was planning to keep 3 adult zebras in it. Is the tank too big? e.g. in a high flow tank, will the the food fly everywhere, such that the zebras cannot capture the food?

BTY, I've also got a 2 ft x 1 x 1 tank. Which one would you choose for the 3 adult zebra?

if you dun mind the tank looking empty and at times difficulty in locating the 3 fellows, 4ft IMP will be great. Bigger tank, water is easier to take care, especially u have only 3 fish in it.......... all you need is a adequate filtering system. TOpping up of water should suffice.

2ft is also not bad, but u need to pay more attention on the water......... i keep mine in 2ft becos i have space limitation..... my idea is 2.5ft x 1.5ft x 12in, so that i can do it in 3 -4 tier......... currently is 2ft x 1.5x12in(H) 4 teir

IMO, floor area of the tank is the key in determining the number of plecs to keep........ if u are breeding, then sex ratio is impt.

feeding wise, try to throw near to where the fishes are hidinig....

Edmundo, thanks for the reply!!

I also have space constrain. The 2ft is located in my living room, which has a constant 26C temperature. The 4ft is in my belcony, which gets about 1hr of direct sun. Temp flux between 25 to 28C daily.

Regardless of the tank size, I'll be using the Ehiem 2217 filter. It is rated for 600ltrs and output of 1000ltrs, so it should be sufficient to keep the water clean for just the 3 fishes.

In this case, I am leaning more towards the 2x1x1 tank. Will the smaller tank size reduce my chance of breeding them in any way?

If the temp gradually fluctuates, i believe the plecos still can take it. Ideally is to avoid such condition.

2217 seem good for a 2ft, if 4ft, i suggest you getting 2 units to over filter the tank.

i have seen 2ft with successful results, but not me.......... :D

I think 4 feet will be nice :) But make sure there is line of sight between fish and you.
