hi
Got a 13" mega cf which suddenly got sunken eyes and frail fins (broken at the edge) . No sunken tummy
Mega have been with me for weeks and no issue and eating super good. New addition to tank is 17" BES for 1 week plus. mega seems well. Some hustling here and there but nothing serious. each got their own places.
Did water change this morning 25%. Found mega breathing heavy, cant remember if it is after water change or yesterday.
isolate the mega now in a container as i do not have spare tank with air bubbles and water from existing 3 feet tank.
Any bros got any adv of why is this so? Does he need any medi or just isolate. I will be leaving singapore sunday and that makes things worst.
thanks

13" Mega + 17" BES in Single 3ft Tank ... total wrong move ...
Both are known to be highly aggressive ... its usually either one will survive ...
Solution ... separate both ... clean water will solve the problem ... or if required add some black water to calm the fella

HI bro, i share the same experience before, iz seem common for them to get sunken easily, like your water parameter is less ideal and it coauses stress to it..... i dun recommend isolation unless u gona do daily partial water change in tat container........... Salt solution would be good to add. Does itz color change? :)

Never see them have a serious fight. Each have their own corner. I will have to see what to do with them after heal the mega.
Thanks.
sorry, may i ask could it be PH Burn? will PH burn will cause this prob?

No, normal aquarium salt, if u no confident make into solution den add. .... since iz only sunken eyes and torn fins (not burnt type) likely streesed up due to fights and aggression.

Here some pictures. It does not looks like torn fins. Some redness on the hind.
Container too small with air bubbles, water condition not so good. Seems floating. So shifted to a 2 feet tank partition this morning at 6.30.
Seems calm now. but will monitor at 1pm

Oh, so sor i to hear tat, but his kind of torn fin is not due to fights........ the redness is a real bad tell tale signs.

May it RIP, sorry to hear your losses.
This is probably due to bacteria infection, u can contact TS70. He had a similar experience in the past.
Maybe can check with him to prevent future occurance.

thanks bro. Will contact TS70. certainly good to have some conclusion what causes the death to prevent future oocurance. He had red markings on the lower half of the body, all fins edge are white like dead cells, sunken eyes (before and after pass), no sunken tummy. BBYY suspect that it is a ph burn.
The morning before , I have done 25 to 30% water change to lower the nitrate and found him not well by 9 pm. He seems ok the night before. (definitely not sick for more than 48 hours before as he is eating well and moving abt) . But previously no issue with this amount of water change. Could be stress by the new BES and the water change which cause the immune system to be susceptible to disease or external environment.

Redness is injury, correct?
They fight in the dark?
If redness is not injury, then surly it must be fugus, correct?
NO3 (nitrate) don't kill fishes instantly. It affect longevity only. NH3, NH4, NO2 will most likely to kill them instantly..but the first to die is always the small fishes.
Note: the beast was eating well
The signs are there.

Fungus can attack when water is too new or akaline. Fungus attack is due to the fish protective coat has been stripped. This happened always to discus immediately after water change. We always argued.. water is clean wat.. but.... fish protective coat is gone. thanks to chlorine and etc.
When water is too new, there isn't enough bacteria to convert the NH3 and NH4.... this result in ammonia/ammonium spike
O2 present is of paramount important. They are badly needed in nitrogen cycle

I'm intepreting it as BES fight Mega .... Mega stressed and died ...
plecos dun really bite ... chunks off are uncommon .... plecos chew .... think from perspective of sandpaper against wood ....

bro, the mega had already died, so do monitor the BES for now.........................
from the pics, my impression is this:
1st: parasitic/bacterial infection
2nd: the WC brought about a catalyst reaction to the condition of the mega
how the mega got the infection is the key issue here:
a) something that is dormant on the BES becomes fatal on the mega????????????
b) ur water parameter?????????????? (prior to that WC, when was the last WC??)
c) filter media????????? clogged?????????
hope these may help to "pin-point" to some area of analytical thoughts for you...........................

Your advice is indeed useful and really good points for thoughts and future references and the link here too http://www.arofanatics.com/forums/archive/index.php/t-259134.html
But very very and super sad to say, the whole tank almost got wipe out. Gone on a business trip 5 days to Germany and on the 9th Sep, while on the way to eat the best turkish kebab in Hamburg. House commander called, fish floating. I tell you , want to cry on the spot and you can imagine how "nice" lunch was. Commander dun know how to scoop fish , got to recall mum who lucky stay few blocks away to clear fish and change water.
Damage is serious. BES, L240 and L114. Survival, L114x2, LDA01, L27, L95 and madagascar P. menarambo x 5. Mum say feed not enough. Commander say got feed but never on light and see, only food in. Mini Commander say got check and morning fish still below , not floating. Super heart pain man, nice BES, did not even send him off, perhaps it is good thing i guess, it is too sad to send off.
Friday came back, found L27 bloated and LDA01 weak, 114x 2 fins tear-like. Next day L27 and LDA01 gone. 5 madagascar seems something wrong, not quite able to pin point, fin clamp and some net-like thingy growing on their body and face. Transfer them to another tank with Xantos. In fact now they are better in the original tank with 2 x114 . The only fish that are all well throughout and goood is L95. Interesting immune system.
The tank is now cycling good again. Time and again, complacency plays a part in their death. Perhaps it is man thing or maybe just me. Reading the thread and the whole of internet forum is one thing. Dilligently adhere to those advise is more important. Men... hiaz, what can i say. Again maybe is me again. Impulse of one night stand does not always turn out well. Beautiful BES that beacons at you is not always good as they say beauty can sometimes be deadly. Perhaps the BES is meant to be someone else babe and i am not ready yet.
As sotongman say compatibility is important, never put two deadly beauty in a tank. So i am now hunting for a 5 foot tank to be put in the office and wait patiently for beauty and hopes the next relationship will be fruitful. I loves beauties and cant resist them, so i guess a 5 foot would be next best option to have an affair with those beauties and hope they dun bump into each other.
Learn as you live. indeed . that is life.

I don't and can't explain this. It does feel like $hit. It is easy to say lesson learnt.. but.. is.. my fish died- i feel both angry and mostly sad. the most 'tulan' part is don't know why they died.
It reminds me of my L24 who died during my business trip too. It is a sub-adult. The best finnage because it is a sub-adult. I bought from Gan.
