Perhaps house them in low - tech tank. It is going to be stunning. During those days with Zebra is $25, I have seen some AQ guys kept them in their planted tanks but with less less success. Anyway those days, Zebra is inexpensive. Today's market no one can afford to do that I guess. anyway, anyone having it right now? Zebra with planted tanks..
Please share.

I have but not densely planted. Just a few species of anubias in a low-tech planted set-up.

I'm trying with the poor man's zebra, L134, in a low-tech planted tank with only nana plants tied on DWs.
Already have 1 causalty out of the 4 I bought on Tuesday :(

I only remove the sand last week liao, so tank water already cycling for 1 week, somemore got put in ketapang leaves.
The up lorry pleco found with no skin & lots of holes on the body, probably attacked by the aro or the betta culls which I throw in to feed the aro :p

Put it this way, in the past, zebras are wild caught, living most of their life in rocky, fast current river, with hi oxygenated water..... how could they survive in planted tank environment where water has to be calm, oxygen depletion when light is off
maybe now those captive bred can do it..... but like you said, price escalated and how to try? :)
try on other hypans maybe still possible.

The L134 are only 1.5" lah, another causalty last nite, suspect maybe the aro attacked it, then the bettas went in for the kill.
Should've see how the bettas "attacked" the carni pellets which I feed to the plecos, helicopters, golden algae eater & SAE.
Or could the SAE or GAE be the culprits

Rush home yesterday, took out spare tank & transferred the L134 & helicopters to the temp setup.
My 18" aro in my 5ft tank never even touch my previous L200 & L81, which were only 3" :p
So I think really depend on the temperament of the aro lor

My aro which is a red, can't tahan red, when I used to house my previous 12" L25 with it, the aro lost its appetite & always stay at the bottom of the tank near the pump inlet

I once saw in C328 7" xback trying to swallow a 4" AA, aro's jaw extended by the pect fins, alerted aunty and first time saw aunty panicked. After using a net to try to frighten the aro, the AA was split out. Aro ok, AA ko.

Agreed, even though I've only 1 pc of DW tied with nana plants on 1 side of my tank, the plecos will tend to hide under or behind the DW.
Somemore they'll rather wait for the tetrabits to be swept near them before eating, instead of swimming out of their cover to eat in the open :p
Careful with those DW tied with plants coz' had a few pcs of plecs ( many many moons ago ) kenna caught and KOed by the fine fishing lines ! especially those smaller species like Peckol or Hypan etc :(

I used cable ties to anchor the nana plants to the DW, making use of narrow branches & holes in the DW :p

When will we be seeing more of L173 in S'pore?
Thinking of adding a few pcs to my pair of L134, as they seem to be quite lonely :p
