Boss actually I suspect the reason of its death is because there are no males to fertilise the eggs. The female one might have stored the eggs inside her body for a long time already and now the that she has produced too much eggs she got to release it.

What I am trying to put across is that I suspect fishes have to release their eggs on regular basis and because there is no male to help fertilise in this case, the fellow kept producing and storing the eggs inside her body and the amount accumulated so much until it has weaken the fish. Then in a desperate attempt it finally managed to release these eggs and died subsequently. The reason I thought this way is because of the many death reports of endis when disected, they found eggs inside.

Salmons also died after their pilgrimage to lay eggs.

logically for a pleco ... it shouldnt die after laying eggs ... else allen's ATM would have ... *ahem* ... but we've not known of any successful psuedus breeder to tell the tale ...

but something I've noticed ... plecos do decompose much faster than many other type of fishes ... perhaps due to internal fungi or ???
