Today as I was flipping through the aqualog, I noticed that they recommended the feeding of carnivorous food to the royals mainly L27s, L190 and L191. Could they have made a mistake or did I see wrongly?

what u saw was not wrong... it is important that they have a variety and balanced diet.... besides the normal algae wafers, "hard" veg, some "meat" like frozen bloodworms, carni pellets and sinking pellets can be added.. dun forget that in the wild they feed off the dead body of fishes too.... but my opinion is to give in moderation as compared to having pseudas who are more meat based feeders

Yup bro I agree that they do feed on meaty food but I was surprised that aqualog put panaques as carnivore instead of an omonivore

Panaques are first and foremost wood-eaters, they have evolved uniquely to digest wood. It is possible that they ingest larvae, meat stuff on the wood but they wouldn't set up to hunt for them. It has been suggested that bloated stomachs/sudden deaths have been the result of over feeding on animal protein.

This is not the first nor the last time that Aualog makes mistakes;)

Just a thinker, wild birds do consume fine sands to help them digest/breakdown the food they ate....... do u think these wood tat panaque ate may aso be used as a mean of digesting meaty diet?

Bro

The teeth structure etc, suggests otherwise.

I strongly recommend that we (PCS) should read and understand this article and help to spread the message....I copied a very short portion here, but do take time to read the interesting article. For once in the field of L numbers, we have a evidence based fact NOT just opinions:)

The use of woody plant material as a dietary item is rare among vertebrates and unknown in fishes. Previous work has shown that loricariid catfishes of the genus Panaque have teeth which appear to be specialized for gouging, and that individual Panaque can be captured with gastrointestinal tracts filled with wood shavings............Panaque are capable of growth on a "wood-only" diet, they should possess interesting adaptations for exploiting low-quality carbon sources unavailable to other fishes....
