I guess the sands are not so critical. Water change and circulation are more important.

thanks for the reply bro..I'm housing them with cories now.. they are swimming around the tank instead hiding up in the caves and all. is that considered normal???

Of course not normal. What kind of setup? Any pic?

oops i missed out this thread.

i have two set ups..

1.5ft tank
one is a 1.5 ft tank which has sand as substrate and some cories and platys as tank mates.. it is running on a large HOF filled wtih mr aqua mini CRs and a white sponge for mechanical fitration. Inside the 1.5 ft is a black sponge filter for additional aeration. For this tank, the 3 201s I have is doing fine and eating well.Sorry i havent managed to take a picture of this tank setup yet.Ph is at 6 however, ammonia and nitrate always is around 0.5 but never 0 . WC is done at 90% every 3 days with aged water.

another setup is a 3 ft ious tank

. Ious compartment is mainly used for mechanical filtration filled with black sponge and white sponge . I've placed some baby torsat inside to help eat any left over food from the tank. in the return comparment I've got two inlets.. one is to a mr aqua 3 tier OHF filled with mr aqua mini CRs and momotaro bacteria sticks. Another is going to a jebao canister filled with mr aqua mini crs and bio balls(bio balls are just there to filled up filtration space for the moment as i save up for better media:p). Inside the tank was 4 , 201s (2 from the bag above and the other 2 at the picture below) and a l52 as seen ffrom my avatar. How ever, the 201s from the bag of 5 above didn't survive in this tank. They weren't eating as well as the rest and by the time i realised it , one have already bit the bullet. I quickly transferred the remaining to the 1.5ft tank but it also died the day after .

Pictures below show how malnourished the plec is in the 3 ft tank as compared to the ones in the 1.5ft tank.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v489/JoonCheen/IMG_0690.jpg

One of the reason for the 2 plecs dying is because they were too stress up to feed? Prior to releasing 2 two of them into the 3ft tank they were shifted in the breeder boxes I have. In the breeder boxes there wasn't anything for them to hide and all. Then when I release them into the main tank there after, it got worse for them .Thus , they didn't feed well, thus dying of starvation. Any bros can confirm this hypothesis? Ph was on the low side around 6 and ammonia and nitrate level was at 0ppm . Wc was done every 3 days 30% each time with tap water (anti-chlorine Stress coat pumped into the tank b4 adding tap water in.)

Nonetheless , lesson learn to observe the plecs each and every time and that negligence always leads to casualties=( .For the 3ft tank, I will try to get a water tank or so to age the water and I might remove the canister filter and replace with a internal filter instead . For the 1.5 tank , I will try to get a bigger tank to increase the water volume and I might also reduce the number of dithers inside it . Please provide any suggestions and feed backs if you have any to improve on my setup! Thanks alot and have a great weekend ahead!

You have the jaguar inside whilst releasing the 5 of them?

If your 3 ft has good water parameters, chances for new introduction survival is very high. But they need time to locate the food which may not be easy initially.

Of course not bro... haha, that jaguar is not with me any more and given its greedy nature, it'ld make quick work out of the plecos if i were to release them in.

Hmm, thats the problem i face with the plecs in the 3ft tank.. I dun see the plecs eating much.:(
