SINGAPORE - The police have arrested two men - aged 23 and 32 - who are believed to have stolen a dozen exotic stingrays valued at around $40,000 from an aquarium.

Last Saturday, the aquarium owner found that the sliding window of his Serangoon North shop had been forced open. After realising that the stingrays were missing from the tanks, the owner made a police report.

Officers managed to establish the identity of one of the suspects. They tracked down the 23-year-old suspect in the Harbourfront Walk area and arrested him at around 1am yesterday. Shortly after, the second suspect was arrested at Rivervale Crescent :D at about 2.30am. All the stolen stingrays were recovered from the first suspect's home.

The two suspects will be charged in Court today for housebreaking and theft by night, which carries a maximum jail term of 14 years.

While he commended the officers for their tenacious investigative work, Commander of Ang Mo Kio Police Division Hsu Sin Yun also advised shop-owners to make sure that their shop doors and windows are properly secured with strong grilles and good quality locks and to install security systems where possible.
