Wanted to post and share some info I have collected in the past here.

Once in a while there will be questions asked if plecs can mix with rays. For over one year, I had royals all sizes from small to giant together with 2 motoro rays and did not have any incidents. The tank was 7x2x2 which might have helped. The rays did not attack the plecs (maybe the armor were too hard) and the plecs did not "****ed" the rays. I believe as long as all the fish were healthy, they leave each other alone, and always gave way to each other swimming up and down the tank. It was only when my plecs collection grew and I wanted to add more DW into the tank that I subsequently sold off the pair of rays.

I am not recommending here to mix the species, I am merely stating that I was successful in comming royals and motoro rays in a 7 footer for a period of more than 1 year with zero incidents.

Since I have this Xingu in the ray photo, I wanted to add another info:

The spots and markings you see in that Xingu (with the ray) faded after a few years. I have read before hobbists debating if the facial and body markings is nice or not, will fade or not, etc...my experience is that after 2 to 3 years in my tank condition, pH 6.8 to 7, temperature 28 to 30, the spots and markings faded when the fish grew, and many nice parallel lines are formed.

This is the same fish 2 to 3 years later:
