Hi all,
Wanted to check if anyone tried?? I mean adults specimens. I was looking at my fish last night and he was like 'get me a mate kinda of look'. Maybe change the tank to 6x2.5x2 and video everything:p. Hmm....anyway just curious, please share, all panaque lovers. All info welcome no matter how minute! like get a bigger female or stuff like that...

Mike ! see what you have done ! :D
For LDA65, I have male and female ! :D BUT ! BUT ! can only contribute the female for the " breeding program ". :D
For Xingu Platinum, I got 2 males ! with very long chew chew ! :D :D.

Champion! Now we have one male and one female, so bro akoh what is the ratio for them to breed? 4 male is to 1 female? :D

No experience on panaque breeding ! but reckon if the condition is right ! a pair is good enuff ! but may have to minimise the " pond mate " ! :(

Bro with your female and bro michael lai male lda 65, what we need now is to wait for bro celticfish green light and we can sit down and choose an auspicious date for this experiment. I think we need to record down all details for this experiment :D
Reckon its gonna take them a couple of months before they get down to business ! hence it is more than just the date ! there are other matters like !
- Feeding
- Maintenance
- Monitoring the breeding program etc

Yup, yup..I was thinking also using tank because we could;
1)video everything
2)water parameters within our control
3)ease of maintenance due to smaller parameters.
Am also curious to how big plecs breed, since most of our data is on small plecs only....

Bro actually I like the idea of using a tank for filming and recording but then if we were to use a tank, we got to have a really big tank. I have discussed this with another bro before and we think the base area could be an important factor affecting breeding

Bro, I remember you separated them into 2 compartments previously, do they fight when not in breeding mode?
Well its bound to happen sometime, with so many LDA65 owners around in singapore. If it happens, it'll be a first. I think one of the best thing you could contribute back to our hobby.

I concur, was also toying with the idea of renting a pond from Mal or some farm owner. The concrete pond would be great actually, just the logistics and the manpower we need to iron out....:o:rolleyes:

hey guys,
you can come over and view the pond first.
then you can decide if its suitable.
lets put the red dot on the map!
michael lai
27-12-2007, 02:44 PM
You sure? Irvin. Dun wanna to impose as surveilance or observation is most likely required....
celticfish
27-12-2007, 03:24 PM
no worries michael.
we can check the suitability of the pond first.
i'm sure some work needs to be done.
details can work out later.
also, i have a guard dog... although its only a pomeranian.
but the bark always wakes me up!!!
even without the dog, the security from the neighbours is good.
off hand, i'm wondering if some kind of cctv is possible.
or an underwater camera for confirmation of spawn.

Bro, they whacked all over the shop ! until no choice have to put the partition ! even with the partition up they still push nose to nose ! :D well ! maybe that is their courtship dance lor ! :D :D

any possibility of she-male LDA65?
This you got to ask bro akoh cos he is going to provide the female :D
Now that we have the fish lets set a date to meet up and discuss about this! It is getting very exciting :D

Bro Celticfish's pond looks good for most freshwater fishes, so if he's willing to contribute to this project, it may be a good advert for our club, if we also manage to setup video footage or a live webcam link for pleco lovers all over to monitor the progress :)

This weekend is out for me coz' on officiating duty for the ACE Invitation Swimming Championship, Toa Payoh Pool, 9am to 5 pm on 29th & 30th Dec 2007.
Mike ! what you reckon ? :D

28-12-2007, 11:28 AM
Err...can't do this alone leh, both parents must be present to view the hostel. Let's do it when we are both free, need to discuss also on the logistics with you. The observation part, digital video cam or underwater cam. Not too worried about the feeding costs but the cam might cost a bit, also maybe discuss how best to achieve the comfort zone for all parties, it's a district 9 house after all hor:D.

once you guys are okay we can check out the suitability.
and maybe discuss some possible monitoring device/system.

michael,
why dont you firm a date for checking with akoh.
with regards to visits shouldnt be a problem for the "parents".
there's always someone at home so you can always drop by.
just a minor intro to my house members.
some information on the pond.
there is a filter/pump "cave" that is covered.
so it could possibly act as the spawning cave too.
you will have a better idea when you see it.
only concern i have is the pump being in their way when they do the nasty...

Ok, thanks. In the meantime, I'll be doing some research on their mating behavior. Will be back to you soon.;)
wa pcs advancing into pleco porno!!!. ok back to serious note, from experience, 2 pieces of giant will always lead to WWF, however, with more giants in a tank, the fighting seem much less intense. quite similar to aro comm...
My concern is more the depth of the pond ! deeper better ! :)

Hmm...where to find so many adult LDA65? Also not all owners might be game for it since it's untested grounds and the risks involved.:o

How about the ratio? Must there be more males or females in this case?
Ideally should be more male, so that she can single out the alpha male or males :D

Sorry MIA for a while, my baby(LDA065) caught a case of dun noe wat and is recuperating now. Sunken eyes being only the visible symtoms. After consultation with Mr "in house LDA65 Guru" Allen, he is slowly but surely showings signs of recovery. Keeping my fingers cross now.....:o

hope it gets better michael.
btw i always hear about sunken eyes and stomachs.
are plecos that susceptable to infections?
i would think that well maintained water conditions would be enough.
are there other points/parameters that cause these?
sorry large pleco nubie here... :p
michael lai
12-01-2008, 12:10 PM
Erm..it has been said PH fluctuations are bad for them. The main suspect here I think. Let's see what the others think...
Mike, glad to hear that it's getting better !.:)
The key in plecoing is " champion quality water " hence can not cut back on maintenance work ( pwc, service & change filter stuffs etc ) and go easy on the feeding. :)
