I have noticed that sometimes when my plecos lay upside down, its cornea would be touching the floor of the tank which means the gravel. I have been wondering would such a behaviour cause the cornea to be scratched or will it automatically recover even if it is scratched that allows it to lay in such a position. Or do they simply don't care because they do not rely on their eyes very much.

there are cases whereby i did WC and the fishes get darty and skittish, and the eyes got scratched by DW or pump, etc.............. the eyes got cloudy on the surface and turns clear again by the next few days................... imo, not a big issue.................

they do rely on their eyes very much, as observed from flaring/pushing for territories, navigating thru the piles of DWs, went into hiding when you go near.....................

Anyone has any idea whether there's a protective layer across the eyes of the plecos, since they do not have eyelids, if u observe they actually turn their eyeballs into their sockets, when they 'blink'

Oh that's cool. That means their eyes can repair by themselves.
