Sending out a warning to hobbyists using similar setup as mine. This is base on true life story!

Recently, brought back an arowana (approx 17") from a frd's comm tank. I introduced this fellow into a 4x2x2 tankset (Chris u seen mine tankset before)

Setup detail:
Tank size: 4x2x2
Filtration : OHF with submersible pump
Occupant: Exotics plecos and new Arowana (used to housed a 22" Aro)

As CNY is drawing nearer, decide to bring mum go MY (PM me if you want EXOTIC updates from Carrefour :D) to do some CNY shopping. At about 10pm, we finished buying the stuff and decided to settle for a dinner be4 heading home. Then, a call from mine sis, "The entire house is Flooded, *%*%#@%!" Stuned, trying to find out which is tat fateful tank. First thing hit my mind is this 422 tank cos the submersible pump is seating on the tank floor where the rest are either on sump or cannister (which i maintain the inlet suction at mid level of the tank). Ater confirmation, it is this 4x2x2. Immediately, i zoom back to Sing but holy shit, traffic no smooth enuff. Lucky i manage to contact a frd for help. Understanding from him, the arowana was swimming side way when he arrived (cos by low water level). But one good news is that all finnages are fine. All plecos are fine too....... Phew....... It took me, OC, mum 45min to clean up the "flood".... lucki OC no %#%@..... :D

Root cause : Stupid unstable aro (brought back abt 3 weeks) hit the plastic tubing and send the water splash out from the tank! Sucide move.......... (Eric, update for you on my unstable arowana! :D). The socket connect to the rain bar was dislodged..... pump capacity 1200l/hr........

Advice : if you using this system, please tap up all the socket joint.

Contiune to enjoy ar0-plecing! :D

Heng ahh !

Mine was, the pipe dislodged and water splashed onto the power supply and tripped the MCB, after that no more OHF ! all removed !. Anyway noticed the SP is generating alot of heat ( underwater ) and eating up the monthly bills ! :( :D

all my 3 set-ups are converted to ohf for easier maintenance...
i usually will make sure that the piping and tubes are secured...especially for my 5ft with the 20inch aro inside cos that bugger loves to jump....just did a stunt yesterday morning & ended with a deep cut on its head

Not nice to mention the brand but all submergible pumps do generator some degree of heat, increase range is about 2 degree C. :)

actuali thinking back it will depends on wat fish you keeping? some like to maintain temp at 28-30 degree...so they add heaters (see sotongman thread) so putting it in a positive way, it maybe promoting for that brand.......... you are fwell-known for using that "Brand" so no need mention aso more or less know...... keke :p

Boss, similar situation happened to me twice, both times nobody at home, come back, whole house blackout, cos the water splashed onto the electrical sockets behind the tank, tripping the electricity supply.
Both times no casaulties, unless u count the burns on my face from my OC's staring & the ringing in my ears from her lecturing :p
Have been using hose tighteners & white tape as double protection ever since.
Now with my 2 new IOS tanks, hope similar thing won't happen again

The other thing is some plecs do chew on the wire and create some power leakage, kenna " bite " a new times ! now I wear rubber slipper when doing maintenance or PWC. :)
