Once every 2~3 weeks, 30% WC.
But filter wool in my OHF top layer, once every 2~3 days or whenever it's clogged :p

how do you handle water evaporate when you use tickle filter? 2 - 3 weeks once seem long IMO, but replacing of filter wool may have compensate it. Can i say your tank PH is more to the low side... 5 - 6?

I top up water once every 3~4 days, as the cannister filter comes with a surface skimmer inlet, so water level must at least be at this inlet level.
pH maintain ard 6~6.5

so at least you top up water...... there is an addition of fresh water.... however, since you will be adding water, why n0t siphone of some at the same time and then add water..... den it wil become a simple water change.... ?

do u guys, everyday spray the wool? meaning wash the wool everyday?
I do wc once a week sometimes alittle more than a week if I'm busy.
My filter will be washed only when it's about to choke otherwise I don't :o
Once a week and only 20% :D

my usual routine is once every week ... could be 20% or even 50% dependent on tank condition ..
though may increase frequency to twice a week or even alternate shall water parameters fluctuate ...
Filters .. hardly touch them if its canisters ... easily 4-5 years no touch .. but recently 2-3 weeks back just did a major overhaul adding more biohome plus .. usual order from bottom up: Ceramic rings, black bio sponge, bio home plus .... no white wool ..
OHF every 2-3 months clean OHF rainbar to prevent clog ... medias hardly touch for 1-2 years ... most recent added media bacteria house think inside for 6 months liao ... top down order: bio balls, bacteria house, ceramic rings ... no white wool ..
IOUS ... siphon/drain sludge thats reachable from outlet compartment during water change ... order top down: 1 layer black bio sponge ... clam shells ... 7 kg bacteria house ... 3 kg bio home ... white wool <- only filter with white wool (rabbit brand wool for pillows .. cheap and good :D) ...

Does it work better to have black bio sponge in the middle tray in a cannister filter?
What abt using of normal filter wool in cannister filter? Will it affect the quality of water being transferred back to the tank?
Btw, Yun Feng in Tampines is having some serious discounts for Fluval cannister filters, u guys may wanna take a look. Would have gotten 1 if I had not just recently bought the white Sunsun 1 during AQ07 :D

Bro no need to work ah? :p With regard to using filter wool in canister I think u better don't try. You will regret cos I think it will choke in a week. My planted one chokes after 1 week and it's a shrimp tank :D

Just finished my conference call, do some work before heading home.
Btw, I've been using the filter wool that came with the cannister filter, since buying it at AQ07, so far no clog, as my inlet is 1/2-way up my tank lor :D

my black bio sponge is self cut one (actually not me cut .. madam cut one . wahahha) ... suitable sized for Eheim Pro Series like 2226, 2228, 2026 & 2028 ...
Still got some spares .. PM me if need loh ..
Will take longer time to mature than fine wool ... but more reliable and longer lasting (practically forever) than fine wool ..

This morning at 4.15am, as my CO was going to make milk for my baby, her sudden motion caused my aro to crash into the pipe linking my submersible pump to my OHF, creating a mini water fountain.
Took me 30min to clear the mess, which makes me wonder whether I should do away with my OHF & install another cannister filter.
Bros, any suggestions?
Btw, I once saw a gigantic corner filter, abt 1ft tall, in 1 of CF's display tanks. Anyone knows where to get such a filter?

akoh had one of such bad incidents recently as well ..
personally would suggest to round up using white tapes used for plumbing on those joints ....
or worst case perm secure these pipes with PVC pipes for water pipes ... that one confirm steady no run water ...

Bro you can use those PVC glue and stick all joints. This way it will never dislocate again. I have had my fair share of fountain incidents as well and the house will stink if not mopped properly :(

personally i feel that doing so might stir up or disturb the biological balance of the tank..................... for me, i throw them away after each WC...................
any other views????????????

are you refering to those bubble filters or those powerhead ones?????????????
imo, in terms of maximising efficiency, those bubble ones do not fare well with that amount of space................
internal power filter can be quite cumbersome to clean especially when you are picking it up.....................
unless your primary filtration is still using sump/OHF/IOS/cannisters, such additions can be considered...................... personally feel that the filters should be "outside" the tank.................

Somemore, I'm using the thick Mica wool, so usually tear into 2 halves, as the dirt trapped dun usually reach the bottom when the whole pc is being used :p

Yah ! the LDA65 smack the PH piping out of position and the water spat out onto the switch and trip the electrical supply.
Luckily some of the AC/DC pump was working ! if not ! I dunno what to say !. Anyway, since most of my "major" tanks has two units of cannister filter running, I torn all the mechanical filter down ! save money, less maintenance work and neater ! :D

Would like to go to 2 cannister filters as well, but not enough holes at the top bracing to run 2 additional pipes, any good suggestions?
Anyway, I've started doing 10~20% WC once a week, on top of my regular wool cahnge :)
for me once a week .
50%<----will never do that again.:)

Actually, depending on your tank setup & water parameters, sometimes a 50% change may be required.
