View Full Version : Housing 2 big panaques
Recently I tried to place two panaques, 1 Peru Green (PG) 12 incher and 1 Tocantin 13 incher together in a 3X2X2 tank. Initially they lived together pretty peacefully but after afew days, I saw the PG chasing after the Tocantin. Now I have segregated them.
I was told by someone that we cannot place 2 big fellows together because the agression is not spread out but I thought it would very much depend on the temperment of the panaques hence this experiment. The PG was pretty peaceful when it stayed alone in the 3X2X2 and its aggression shocked me.
Now I have this thought in mind. If I had placed them in a larger tank say in a 7 footer, would this have happened? May I know if anyone has managed to put 2 big panaques together without them fighting? Or to those who comm them, may I know how do you do it to reduce fighting?

If 7ft tank with sufficient DWs, think they most likely to stay in their own half.
If u purposely drop their food at the invisible line of their boundaries, they'll start fighting when they come out for food :p
Anyway, u can always pass me the 13 tocantin to prevent further damages, 1 of my tank is now looking empty, with only my red aro in it, with a small apple snail :p
As mentioned by peck, if the tank is big and plenty of hideouts, they should be ok ! BUT remember to transfer them into the time AT THE SAME TIME ! :) you still remember my Panaque comm. tank ?

Yah I remember yours. As the tocantin was bigger I thought it would attack the PG if I intro them at the same time hence I intro the PG first then the tocantin. Who knows the PG got so aggressive when it saw the tocantin. It was chasing the tocantin around when I saw them yesterday.

Bro the other time when we visited your place I noticed your tocantins to be very well behaved. They each took one side of the DW and not bother each other. That was what I hoped to achieve but failed :(

I agree that goldline much fiercer. Still remember my 10" goldline killed my 8" Xingu Platinum within 24hrs of me releasing the xingu into to 422 tank, which the goldline had been staying for a mth
After that, I've stopped keeping panaques :o

if the tank size is 6ft and above with width measuring min 2ft, den i dun see much prom for tat comm, but i would still suggest adding more than 2 pieces.... unless iz a pair of two sexes. if n0t n0t recommended.

I have 4 pcs of goldline thunder. Peaceful for almost 1 yr already except the ocassional chase here and there, nothing life-threatening. Think must put more to spread the agression. If 2 pcs high chance will fight till death.

Agree with you bro, but not into keeping panaques now.
My 1st love is still Scobbies, as can be seen in my signature :p
But if anyone wanna spare me a nice panaque anytime, I've got tank space to let :D
