Discovered that some plecos inside a comm tank do not look good...water parameter was checked and it was fine (nitrate of 40-60ppm).

The near one foot L97 is housed in this tank, and it is super aggressive! Question now is: would aggression caused so much stress to the weaker plecos leading to problem? Noticed a non-pseuda (adonis) has actually developed sunken stomach:(

or could it be due to the food? causing stomach upset? fouling the water (but it was not indicated looking at the parameters)

signz....i can answer the query myself...and this happened in the other 5ft comm tank housing the goldline....dunno due to watever reason...the goldline suddenly become very aggressive...kept whacking my 15inches L24 (yes...a near 10in whacking a 15in)....it started yesterday afternoon....

this morning before leaving home, L24 is still quite alright with just scratches on its body (inflicted by the chew chew of the goldline)...suddenly received call from wife in the evening asking me to rush home to 'rescue' the L24...cos another pseuda joined in the aggression and started chewing on the wounds of the L24!!!!

now transfered the badly injured L24 into hospital tank...badly wounded with bites holes...yes holes on its belly:(

i reckon 40% chance of survival:(
keeping my fingers crossed...................................

bro, i guess both ur GL n 24 are simply too dominating that neither one are trying to be submissive. You have got too many adult matured males in ur tank. i guess u gotta separate them once ur 24 recovers. It also need to depends on the characteristics of each fishes if we planning to comm them.

when i try to comm my 3 L160 in a 3ft tank, one of them also shows this kinda symptoms. i got no choice but to put them back into the bigger tank. Now, they are much more peaceful. Among all, my 273 is still the terrorist in my tank.

i guess my wife discovered the badly injured L24 too late...it was dead this morning :(

yes...u can see the inside of the belly...another small one near the gill area....but i believed these holes were the work of the smaller pseuda...

in actual fact...the L24 was a peaceful pseuda...and i think the GL felt threatened by the size...but the puzzling part is why the sudden aggression? they were housed together for a while...aggression only started last Sunday???

never underestimate a panaque's chew chew...it is their weapon...they will flare it up and brush it on their opponent...it will cause injury...bad injury after a few brushes......

pseuda on the other hand does not have a armour body like the panaque....only spikes which will drop...they depended on their teeth during a fight...against a pseuda it is useful...but against a armour bodied panaque....it will be rendered useless.....

will post some pics later tonight to show the injuries of the poor L24.............

i used to encounter one such occasion. it was between a 14" Mega and a smaller L113. The newly intorduced mega got so stress with sunken eye and stomach. Then i decided to bring out the L113 and let the mega get settle down again.. Soon after the mega recovered. :)
