View Full Version : What happens.....?
Just found out that my medias are choking and this thought came to my mind.
What will happen if I don't wash it and let it to continue choking (not mentioning that it will overflow)?
Will the BB inside all die off since they were cultured using wet dry system?
Or are the BBs the same and they will continue to thrive? I'm very bad in this aspect so need someone to enlighten me on this. :o

4 days ago ... tank has been cloudy for 1-2 weeks ..
washed and cleared the canister with tap water ... water starts to clear within 8 hrs ...
too much bacteria aint such a good thingy ...
If system fail or being to fail, the unfriendly stuffs in the water go up ! your plec will also go up the lorry ! ( if left unattended ).
If water cloudy bcoz' of medias ! dun wash lah ! time to change ! :D

This leads to another question. I have always thought that the amount of BB will reach an equilibrium with minimal fluctuations whereby if some BB died, they will reproduce more to process the additional nitrate or nitrite I can't remember. If they over reproduced, they tend to die off as there are insufficient food for them therefore, there will not have too much BB but just enough to process the amount of nonsense produced?

wat if there's too much food for BB ... and BB colonies bloomed excessively ... how?
BB dies to feed surviving BBs ... how?

Too much food for BB will occur only when we overfeed leaving too much leftover food and when the amount of poo increased is high. So assuming that I feed a fixed amount everytime, then I'm not leaving any chances for the BB to boom isn't it. Now that I am feeding a fixed amount, the poo produced will also be of equal amount so the BB colony should not expand or decrease in size by too much that can cause problems to water correct?

presume things would be simplier if u r using bare tank ...
I'm using 3" lapis sand anytime stupid 12" L14 swing tail == more food for BB ...
I've too much variable components in my tank already ...

I change my filter wool every 3~4 days, but somehow the finer rubbish still gets to the media portion of my IOS :(
Will this choke the BBs to death???
Anyway, just added Bacteria House to both my tanks' IOS, so far my water is clear, even though I only do WC once every 2~3 weeks.
Hope the rubbish dun choke up the holes on the BH, when I'm out of town for the next 2 weeks, as my OC may forget to change the wool or top up the water in the IOS
I've also been use the same media from my previous tank, which are >1 yr old, in my current tanks, dun think need to change yet rite?
