An object willl display its weight ie. tank filled to the brim will be the same as when you have all the rocks, sand and driftwoods and filled to the brim ! THE big difference is the volume of water ! :)

tot weight is with reference to density of object?
meaning granite would be heavier than an equivalent volumetric of water?

Yes, on a rough gauge, 1 litre of water is approxiamtely equal to 1 kg. :)

On average the density of granite is 2.75 g/cm3.
Density for glass ranges from 2.00 to 8.00 g/cm3!
But relax float glass is about 2.44 g/cm3.
So glass is not much "lighter" than rocks!
PS - just in case, density for water is 1.0 g/cm3

There are 2 layers of aquarium styrofoam beneath the tank... the tank stand has a t bar in the middle also....
If I have to redo this in the future, I will definitely get one of those custom 4-6ft tanks with extra thick glass... but for now, no more funds liao :P

styrofoam inside base of tank leh ... not styrofoam under the tank leh ...
reason: to spread weight more evenly across base of tank .. else more prone to crack ...

individual preference ..
I would go for black though ...
cos zebras are not known to fade to their surroundings ...
