View Full Version : Beneficial Bacteria
Hi all, can someone explain to me how many different kinds of BB are there and what kind of media is suitable for which. To my knowledge there are only 2 kinds, one that needs O2 to survive and the other without O2. I was searching the web yesterday and someone mentioned that to optimise medias usage, they must be used correctly for e.g wet dry, placed in canister where the media will be exposed to strong current etc etc. Since there are so many methods of cultivating BB may I know if they are all the same?

Aerobic BB for those that needs air
- Life cycle shorter, less effective, less stable, easy to cultivate
Anerobic BB is those that does not require air.
- Life cycle longer, more effective, more stable, hard to cultivate.
More details .. buy me dinner ... tell u more .. :D

Hey hey this is for the benefit of all
Anyway what is the difference in the things they do? Both change ammonia to nitrate or nitrite to nitrate? Dinner I will buy but please give a brief explanation of why they are so important and what are their usage :D

In layman ... why do we need filters for fish tanks or even ponds?
- for aeration?
- for cleaner water?
- for clearer water?
- for lesser harmful pollutants?
Ultimately ... a better living environment for your fishes .. and ultimately to make them live longer ...
so in factual ... wats the difference between functionality? effectively ... NO ...
but which filter functions @ its best at wat condition? After dinner then tell u .. :p

I've caught the balls of the basic but I still cannot understand why some medias need to be placed in high pressured areas while some needs wet dry etc etc. I need to find out how the different medias operate and do some comparison. Anyway I've bought the one by dymax and it looks good but there's no way for me to measure their effectiveness :o

Nope... It's the media by Dymax that looks like bacteria house. Only $9 for 12 pieces :D
