Guys, TCSS a bit...

Do you notice that sometimes there are fads where one species of fish becomes so popular and price just go up and up???

For eg, ST was so hot couple of months ago, the big ones were going for 1k+, now you can find for half that price in AF. Rays are hot now, so lets see....the reasons are always either ban, threathened, etc....then herd mentality sets in and you can just see the demand and price shooting up. I have seen a PDR go from 750 to 7k!

I wonder if the zebra's price has peaked or will ever come down...I have seen it gone from $50 to 75 to 100 to 128 to 228 to 328 to 428 to now 600 (1.2k for breeding pair).

Only the hard core continues "to be true to their passion" and regardless of what is going on, hold on to their precious.

But sometimes I can understand why a rare beauty of a specimen is so sought after...(a bit off tangent liao)...

In S'pore, space is such a premium and we have access to many rare fish. So if you can have only one tank, you would go for the rarest that you could afford...

All this hot air later, I think the key is really to find one that you really like, suit your lifestyle and avoid being tempted by fads...............

How what u think?

Like PDR, now is calling at 3k minimum for a "pup"!

Iz a demand n supply issue i think. Fishes like zebra pleco n black rays have already upgraded to the "luxury" level and no longer a "necesseity". Oversupply of these fishes for example wil not bring down the market price anymore.

i still hoping u call me "zebra for sale........5 for S$500...... !" :p

wah, if we turn this into a zebra price thread, just kena one...

bro consider this: I bought some adults recently, the price I paid ranged from 350 to 420, I also coconut paid 320 each for 3 x 1.5" fry....this is to expand / replace my zeb gene pool....

in the last 2 years at least 5 to 6 males died of battle injuries (change of tanks/territories) or kena eaten alive while trying to become alpha....

have to invest in top filteration, every week change water 2 times 15%, at night must home delivery food to cave door step to feed the babies...

In one tank/colony, there is only one alpha pair breeding, if very lucky, you get 2 pairs breeding, if there are say 12 pcs inside, 8 are just playing the role of "eating waste rice"....sometimes it can take up to years if at all for the first spawn....

In order not to over work the adults (longer life span), you let them raise the eggs to wrigglers to free swimming fry, so that they rest between spawns...eggs and fry mortality rate can be high...

sometimes you sell low cost hoping to help breed this fish at $200 each, people turned around and sell at market price (happened to others, not me)

you cannot monitor and say if you give up breeding project, must sell fish back to me, etc....

so unless really brother brother, setup 3 to 4 ft tank, breeding, sell at brother price, can visit and monitor, etc etc....

so how....dont sell! Best!

Probably this is the reason why price rather be maintain high so that hobbyist are geniunely keen on breeding rather den for sake of making profit. But again, we think back a bit, they may lose interest as time goes and start selling. By then, they could have grow them big n unfairly for them to sell at the price they purchased. Unless, they here buy, and there resell immediately, tat i called un-ethical, again produce the supplier agrees to let him make tat profit.

Higher price on the other hand has a negative side, some geniune players might be deter or deprive from enjoy this gem, like me lor :o:D
