After nearly 2 weeks, all my juv zebbies are still hiding below and inside driftwood. Not once did I manage to catch a glimpse of these little beauties feeding, and the only evidence I have that they have indeed eaten is that they are still alive and the presence of poo every morning.

naturally shy, I guess this is what I should expect from them :o

after many years of keeping fishes where hunger means scouring the tank for food, this is a change that I will have to try to accept.

well, if you have any ideas on how to get these zebbies to be more 'bold' and 'adventurous', do share with me.

cheers

Hey mate, hope all ur zebbies are fine and well. u seen my setup, recently i added small pieces of DW near the front of the tank, so when i feed, they will go under or among the DWs (the DWs are place in such a position where it create crevices between bed and DWs) and i can have a good glimpse of them feeding. Hypancistrus can be very shy plecos, even as an adult individual. You have to be patience in raising these juvs up, if they grow up undisturb in this current setup til adulthood, i believe, by then they will eat readily infront of you.

Happy raising them.

i agree. believe they will come out eat if they feel safer. for me, i stay away from the front of the tank, but looking in from side corner. :D
the juvs will came out to eat and sneak back if they caught u starring at them. :o

by the way, i read in another forum, by using moonlight (blue led light) in the dark room, u can view them eating while u dun appear visible to them.
maybe can try try...

hi, sorry for bringing up such an old post, does blue LED works? as in they'll feed right in front of u?

I have tried using blue LED light and they do feed in front you but of course there must not be any surrounding light outside the tank . :)

good day all, just to share i've seen my L046 in action and feeding by simply turning on in my T5 lights in the middle of the night where the room lights are turned off. i think the effect is similar to us driving at night and when the pilot lights in the car is turned on, we can't see the outside very well. i also tend to see the settled ones more often than newer additions.

BUT, does it affect the well being of the L046? from my observation, they dun seem to be bothered by my 10 minutes of intrusion

If you really want the well being of the plecos , how about throwing them back to the xingu river ? :D Hahaha . Just joking . I think they should be ok . For me I try to have a timer for lights to be on at a fix timing .
