How do you determine the gender of a pleco?

Normally when people ask how to determine the gender of a pleco the most common answer would be to see if that piece has odontodes (a.k.a chew chew in our local context). However, I think this is not a very accurate answer because sometimes during transportation or when it is at a particular time of the season they tend to shed off their odontodes hence what you see at the LFS is practically a bald fish. Although checking the odontodes is a good way to determine the gender of plecs are there any other ways you all use when selection? :confused:

look at their anus area? protruding is male.... :rolleyes: go for the pectoral first fin ray..... big and thick usually male..... i go by gut feel.... keke :)

not all human males got moustache one leh ..

some dun even have leg hair leh ... how to use "hair" to deduce gender?

btw. some women also got chest hair one hor ...
