Any tips to share on growing them? Recently bought a male psuedacanthicus from a fellow hobbyist.

1) keep them alone or in comm?
2) Diet plays a part? More protien based feed helps?
3) Water parameters?

Bascially i keep my pseudacanthicus in comm, frequent fights resulted in constantly shedding of it. :(

What your suggestion?

there are the thoughts that come to my mind,

1) would keeping them in a comm induce the likelihood of them growing due to territorial/mating behavior???????? but then and again, like you mentioned, fights often results in shedding......................

2) apart from keeping water parameter in check, would having strong current induce the growth too?????????

damn, it's just plain shitty seeing them start falling off.............................:(

Was shared that protein based food helps a fellow kaki's panaque grows nice otondotes.

but also bear in mind if there the smallest or always been bullied pleco have a chance in slower growth as in stress + losing out when fighting for food

never really did observe whether the growth is due to their diet or not.............???????

my comm has lesser fights nowadays, that have definitely contributed to the growth......................

If only i have more room, probably keep one by itself.

Actually, getting pH reading accurately is the toughest because the pH pen reading could be influenced by electrical such as lights and etc. For this reason, maintaining CO2 content in the planted tank is the most difficult task.

Anyway, back to ... high pH = better appetite. I don't have a value. But I know it works for discus. confirmed. But high pH = fishes are susceptible to fungus. there are pros and cons.

The growth of odontodes depends on the maturity and gender of the plec, moreover it is seasonal ( more and longer during breeding season ). :)

So focus on "growing" the plec first ! - environment and tank size is the key. :)

Again in a captive environment, do they know that when is the breeding "season"? Do you panaques shed their otondotes during the same period of time every year? :)
